Construction on President George Bush Turnpike is expected to begin as early as June 19, and will last into late 2018. The construction will span from US 75 to SH 78 and will add an additional lane in both directions of PGBT, according to a news release from the North Texas Tollway Authority. The extra lanes will be added to the median currently separating the six-lane expressway. NTTA company spokesperson Michael Rey said in an email to Community Impact Newspaper that barriers can be expected on the median during the first few days of construction. “Sometimes the existing inside lane will also be coned off for construction,” Rey said. “It will vary widely.” The news release said the widening work is needed in order to mitigate the high levels of traffic within the project area, which is close to Richardson's CityLine development and Plano's Heritage Creekside development. The new construction serves as the second of four projects NTTA has planned for PGBT. The NTTA plans to begin its next PGBT widening project from the Dallas North Tollway to I-35E later this summer.
