Shawarma Press plans to open a new Mediterranean restaurant in Plano before the end of the year. According to an Aug. 30 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the Plano location will be inside the Walmart Supercenter at 6001 N. Central Expressway. The filing shows work on the 2,200-square-foot space is expected to be completed in early November.

Couple Sawsan Abublan and Ehap Sabri founded Shawarma Press Mediterranean Eatery & Café in Irving in 2017. In addition to the Plano location, Shawarma Press plans to launch nine additional eateries in Texas, Oklahoma and Florida.

“We’re excited that more people are actively seeking authentic, ethnic dishes as part of their regular diet,” Abublan said in a statement. "Because our fresh menu items are made in-house and appeal to a wide variety of diverse palates and dietary preferences, we’re poised for rapid growth and expansion during the next few years.”

Shawarma Press' menu will follow halal guidelines and feature a variety of wraps, appetizers, salads, pastries, desserts and vegan options.

“We were the first establishment to introduce shawarma in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex,” Abublan said. “Customers appreciate that shawarma and the rest of our dishes are made from scratch, including Mediterranean staples such as our famous hummus, falafel and sauces.”

In addition to the Plano location, six of Shawarma Press' other planned eateries will be located within Walmart stores. 972-830-9305. www.shawarmapress.com
