Construction on the H-E-B store being built in Plano is still on track for a fall opening this year and has not seen any major delays due to weather, company officials said.

The exterior of the 111,000-square-foot-space is beginning to take shape at the store's future location off the southwest corner of Preston Road and Spring Creek Parkway. The company estimates the Plano store will add 425 jobs to the city.

H-E-B broke ground on the project during an event held June 4 last year. The company has also announced other H-E-B stores headed to North Texas in Frisco and McKinney.

The store will feature a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru, an outdoor essentials department and a True Texas BBQ restaurant. Several other hallmarks of traditional H-E-B locations will be included at the Plano store, including a bakery, deli, fresh sushi and daily made tortillas. The store will offer curbside and home delivery.

Additional features of the store, according to H-E-B, will include an organic Texas-grown produce section; a meat market with prime, natural and organic options; a floral department; a large craft beer selection; an extensive wine section; a healthy living department; frozen foods; a beauty department; a pet department; and various household essentials.

Company officials said the store will reflect the character of the Plano community and will emphasize environmental sustainability with several energy-efficient features such as CO2 refrigeration units and LED lighting. H-E-B stated it will also develop extensive natural landscaping around the location.

Central Market, the gourmet grocery chain owned by H-E-B, opened its Plano store off Coit Road in 2002 and helped the company become familiar with the area, H-E-B officials said.

“For years, we’ve had the privilege of having Central Market as great stewards in our community,” said Plano Mayor John Muns in a release last summer. “We look forward to expanding on this longstanding relationship as we welcome H-E-B, a company known for its steadfast commitment to Texas.”

During the groundbreaking event, H-E-B awarded $10,000 each to five Plano community groups: Friday Nite Friends, Emily’s Place, North Texas Performing Arts, The Storehouse of Collin County and City House.

Originally founded in San Antonio, H-E-B has over 400 stores and more than 130,000 employees across Texas and Mexico. The company is one of the largest privately held companies in the state with over $30 billion in annual sales, according to its website.
