Southfork Ranch in Parker, which for years served as the setting for the iconic “Dallas” TV show, has been purchased by Centurion American Development Group.

Centurion American, which is also leading the $1 billion redevelopment of the former Collin Creek Mall site in Plano, plans to build large residential lots on the 241-acre ranch property, according to an Oct. 24 news release.

The number and size of the homes has yet to be determined and will be part of discussions with the city of Parker, the release stated.

“We are looking forward to working with the city of Parker to determine the future of this historic property,” Centurion American CEO Mehrdad Moayedi said in the release. “Southfork Ranch is one of the most important and beloved parcels of land in the metroplex with more than 400,000 visitors each year, and we’re proud to lead the team bringing it into its next evolution.”

The purchase includes the Southfork Mansion and a 63,000-square-foot Conference and Event Center. The property also includes a rodeo arena.

The CBS TV show “Dallas” featuring the fictional Ewing family filmed its five episodes in 1978 at what is now known as Brinkmann Ranch in Frisco, according to a history of that ranch. Lorimar Productions then moved its operations to Southfork Ranch, where the show was centered until it ended in 1991, according to the Centurion American release.

“Because of the ranch’s high profile on television, the beautiful white mansion, the pool, the barns and surroundings quickly became a tourist mecca,” the release stated.

Southfork Ranch has been owned since 1992 by Rex and Ruth Maughan, according to Collin County property records.

In July, Refined Hospitality Concepts took over management of Southfork Ranch, which offers rental space for private events and catering. Southfork Ranch also hosts daily tours, where visitors can walk through the Ewing mansion and see such memorabilia as the gun that shot J.R. Ewing in the season-ending episode that aired March 21, 1980.

Moayedi is a partner in Refined Hospitality Concepts, which he formed in 2019 with winemaker and restaurateur Robert Hall, according to the company’s website. The management company works with restaurants, such as Primo’s and Sfereco, as well as other event venues throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
