One Plano coffee shop transformed Oct. 5 into the fictional Luke's Diner from the television series "Gilmore Girls," serving free house coffee, courtesy of Netflix.

The shop, i Java & Chai, 1820 Coit Road, Ste. 138, is among 200 coffee shops across the U.S. becoming a Luke's Diner today. Similar events were held in other Texas cities, such as Austin.

"There were 700 people here this morning," i Java & Chai Manager Victor Fernanie said.

Doors at the coffee shop opened at 7 a.m., but "Gilmore Girls" fans were waiting at 5:45 a.m., he said.

Making the coffee shop more authentic, a Luke's Diner sign was displayed outside, and a "no cell phones" sign was posted behind the bar.

The event comes as Netflix launches the show's revival and honors the first episode's 16th anniversary. A reboot of the show, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" is scheduled to air on Netflix on Nov. 25.
