The medical assisting advanced practice program will be adding a location at the Plano Campus that will allow both dual-credit and general population students access to enroll, college officials stated in an announcement.
The medical assisting program is offered at other Collin College campuses and at the Health Sciences Academy in Plano ISD.
Also in the fall, the diagnostic sonography program will add a cardiac track for students interested cardiovascular sonography at the McKinney campus.
At the Frisco campus, the new physical therapist assistant program will admit its first cohort of students. Additionally, the surgical assisting program will double in size by adding a new 12-student cohort.
Collin College officials also announced more students will be accepted into the associate degree in nursing and licensed vocational nursing to registered nurse programs this fall.
That will open 100 additional nursing education opportunities, Collin College officials stated.
The associate degree in nursing program will increase from 90 students to 120 students for both spring and fall semesters. The licensed vocational nursing to registered nurse program, which admits 50 students, will increase to 90 students yearly. The program will also admit students in both fall and spring.
“This expansion is in response to the rapidly growing population in our area and the increased need for health care providers within the whole country,” Vice President of Campus Operations Abe Johnson said in a prepared statement. “We’re proud to offer more opportunities to more students and be a part of a solution to a problem that affects all of our communities.”
Other health care-related programs at Collin College have also grown. In fall 2022, the dental hygiene program increased from 16 to 24 students each year. The program also has additional learning space, which includes he addition of more operatories along with newly renovated laboratory spaces.
