Medical City Plano’s Burn and Reconstructive Center received verification from the American Burn Association, making it the only ABA-verified burn unit in Collin County according to a July 16 news release from the hospital.

Medical City Plano’s burn center treats more than 3,600 patients every year, according to the news release.

The details

The ABA verifies burn treatment centers that meet specific criteria, according to the organization’s website. The criteria include having burn specialists available 24 hours a day and employing experienced burn surgeons. The criteria also requires burn centers to provide rehabilitation and long-term care for burn patients.

The hospital’s burn center has two dedicated operating rooms, a dedicated outpatient clinic and a 14-bed intensive care unit, according to the hospital’s website.

Some background

Medical City Plano was previously verified in 2022, with each verification lasting for three years, Medical City Plano Communications Director Tanya Gandy said. The hospital created their burn unit in 2015 and will see 10 years of service this October, Gandy added.

There are two verified burn centers in the Metroplex. The second verified burn unit is the Parkland Burn Center in Dallas.
