Plano residents can expect to see higher water and sewer bills starting this October following council approval.

The rate increases go into effect Oct. 1.

What you need to know

The average resident using 10,000 gallons of water, 7,000 gallons of sewer and a 95-gallon cart for waste will see a $15 increase on their monthly utility bill, according to city documents.

The city is facing an 8% water rate increase from the North Texas Municipal Water District, which the new residential rates will help address to ensure city services stay operational.

Plano is working to gradually increase rates over the next three years to help cover the increased costs for wholesale water while minimizing the impact on residents, according to city documents.
Council also approved an average increase of $1.50 for municipal drainage residential rates, which is assessed by impervious area square footage.

The increased costs and higher rates were included in the FY 2025-26 budget, which Plano City Council adopted Sept. 8.

One more thing

Plano residents may also see increases on their electricity and natural gas utility bills.

Plano residential customers with Atmos Energy are set to see their electricity rates increase by $7.83 a month following Council’s adoption of a settlement with the provider.

However, potential increases for residential customers with Oncor Electric and CoServ Gas are still under review.
