The gist
The sewer improvements will increase the sewer’s wastewater capacity and prevent sewage back ups, according to city documents.
“The existing line is undersized based on the current flow,” Plano engineering director Caleb Thornhill said to council. “This is up-sizing the existing system for that.”
The improved sewer line will run under West Plano Parkway starting east of Independence Parkway and end roughly 600 feet west of Coit Road along the President George Bush Turnpike, according to Thornhill’s presentation.
Thornhill expects construction to start in June, and complete in February 2027.
Zooming out
The West Plano Parkway sewage improvement is the latest project funded with water and sewage bonds from the Community Investment Program, which aims to improve the city’s infrastructure. The current sewage project will connect to a previous Plano Parkway sewer, which is still under construction, and a completed sewer improvement south of Dalhart Road. Plano has spent roughly $36 million in total on sewer system improvements along the turnpike, according to Thornhill’s presentation.
