Commissioners voted to approve the plan at the commission’s Dec. 16 meeting.
Major renovations to Plano East costing $48.5 million will be funded by Plano ISD’s 2022 bond, and will include the following:
- Two additional gyms
- Several athletic facility improvements
- Turf replacement at the baseball and softball fields
- Building renovations to heating, ventilation and air conditioning, restrooms and more
- Relocation of the tennis courts
The preliminary site plan was approved by the commission in October with requested variances to the required 100-foot setback for bleachers adjacent to residential properties and fence construction requirements. The city’s Board of Adjustment denied both variances, nullifying the commission’s initial approval.
The newly approved site plan no longer includes the previous variance requests, and also includes a reduction from 2,551 required parking spaces to 1,516.
While the parking space requirement is decreasing, the site is adding 18 spaces. The reduction is not expected to create parking issues or parking spillover into nearby neighborhoods, according to city documents.

The renovations are expected to be completed in November 2026, according to PISD’s website.
