Plano City Council approved $178,500 to fund master planning efforts for Hall Park at the Oct. 14 meeting. The park is going to be located near the corner of Alma Drive and West Park Boulevard.
“The whole purpose of that [master plan] is to identify some opportunities and constraints of the site,” said Renee Jordan, Plano’s park planning manager.
The big picture
The city plans to host three to four engagement windows for the project, Jordan said, adding that each will be open for around three weeks. The windows will also include surveys, allowing members of the public to provide feedback on content included within the brief presentations.
Jordan said that once the different engagement windows open for the project, the public will have around three weeks to provide feedback. Individuals can also find more information about parks master plans or the concepts for Hall Park online.
The city has owned the 38 acres that could make up the park since 2010, Jordan said.
The impact
By going through the master planning process and understanding the community’s wants in the park, Jordan said city staff will get a better idea of what to include, such as the number of play structures or walking trails.
The master planning process also helps narrow down the cost for completing the project, which is necessary because there is not currently funding allocated for Hall Park, Jordan added.
What’s next?
Once the public engagement windows begin, likely in early 2025, it is expected to last for several months. Jordan said that city officials expect to finish the master planning efforts next spring.
City officials are currently working their way through potential projects, including Hall Park, that could be included within a proposition of the 2025 bond, Jordan said.
According to city documents, next steps could include selecting a contractor to develop plans for the site and awarding a construction contract.
