Voters can head to polls to cast their ballots in the upcoming May 3 Election as early voting begins.

On the ballot

Mayor John Muns is up for reelection but faces no challenger. Place 2 council member Anthony Ricciardelli, Place 4 council member Kayci Prince and Place 8 council member Rick Smith have reached their term limits and are not eligible for reelection.

In Place 2, Bob Kehr, Douglas Reeves and Carson K. Underwood are running. Place 4 candidates include Christene “Chris” Krupa Downs and Cody Weaver. The candidates running for Place 8 are Vidal Quintanilla and Hayden Padgett.

Additionally, Plano City Council called a special election for Place 5 because current council member Shelby Williams resigned to seek election to the Collin County Commissioners Court. Gary Cary and Steve Lavine are the two Place 5 candidates.


Also of note

Voters will also consider a $647 million bond referendum broken into seven propositions. Proposition A is for $316 million for street improvements, with a major part of the funding going toward arterial concrete repairs and residential street and alley repair.

Proposition B is for $155 million for a new police headquarters which would also house the 9-1-1 dispatch for the city. Proposition C would allocate $51 million to rebuild the police training center.

Proposition D calls for $37 million for fire station improvements while Proposition E is for $45 million to upgrade the fleet operations center.


If passed, Proposition F would allocate nearly $2 million for improvements at Schimelpfenig Library. Lastly, Proposition G is for $40 million to fund parks projects.

What else?

Voters will also decide on three places in Plano ISD. Place 1, Place 2, Place 3 and Place 6 are all up for election; however, Place 1 board member Lauren Tyra has no challenger. Sam Johnson and Xiomar Pierre filed to run for Place 2. Board member Angela Powell, who currently serves in Place 2, did not file for re-election.

Board President Nancy Humphrey, who serves in Place 3, will have a challenger in Harper Weaver.


In the Place 6 race, three candidates have filed—Elisa Klein, Andrew Rettke and Dash Weerasinghe. Current Place 6 board member Jeri Chambers did not file for re-election.

What you need to know

Early voting for Plano voters begins April 22 and runs through April 25 between 8 p.m. and 5 p.m.; April 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; April 27 from noon to 6 p.m.; and April 28 and April 29 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

If needed, a runoff election will be held June 7.
