Roughly one quarter of the 2022 $1.4 billion Plano ISD bond package construction projects are complete, according to a report from Tony Pearson, PISD director of planning and new construction, at a June 10 board of trustees meeting.

By the numbers

Of the 102 total construction projects in the 2022 bond package, 26 are complete, 39 are currently under construction and 15 are in the design phase. The remaining 22 projects are in the pre-design phase, according to Pearson’s report.

The bond projects are rolling out in five phases, with every project in Phase 1 complete or under construction. In Phase 2, only one project, the Haun Elementary School System and Compliance project is complete, with 21 projects under construction and five projects in design. Phase 3 has 10 of its 22 projects in the design phase, with the rest in pre-design. All six projects in Phase 4 and nine projects in Phase 5 are in predesign, Pearson’s report states.


The bond construction projects include:

Isaacs Early Childhood School
  • Add an 8,400-square-foot kitchen and dining room with new kitchen equipment
  • Replace valves on the sprinkler
  • Add new HVAC controls
  • Add a new digital marquee
  • Replace playground fall protection
  • $7.2 million project budget
  • Scheduled to complete March 2026
The concrete walls on the new kitchen and dining are complete, steel work and framing are going up and crews recently began working on the roof, Pearson said.

Pearson Early Childhood School
  • Build a 5,000-square-foot kitchen with new equipment and dining room
  • Add a new activity room
  • Replace valves on the sprinkler system
  • New voice evacuation fire system
  • New HVAC controls
  • New chillers
  • New digital marquee
  • $5.3 million total budget
  • Scheduled to complete construction in early August 2025
The roofs on the new kitchen and activity room are complete, and construction crews are currently installing drywall.

William High School Phase 2 Renovation
  • Drainage improvements
  • Renovate classrooms, cafeteria, elective and athletics spaces
  • Field house renovation and roof replacement
  • Acquire and renovate the Harry Rowlinson Natatorium
  • $60 million total budget
  • Scheduled to complete in July 2026
Construction crews are currently installing framing in the cafeteria, and expect to complete classroom renovations by the end of the summer.


Haggard Middle School Replacement
  • Build a new 188,000-square-foot Haggard Middle School to replace the current campus
  • Fire lanes, irrigation, landscape and circulation lanes will also be replaced
  • Install a new 300-meter four-lane synthetic track
  • $87 million total budget
  • Scheduled completion in February 2027
The existing campus will remain in use during construction. The Plano Senior High School softball field was demolished to make room for the new building, and site utilities are currently being developed.

Plano Senior High School Major Renovation

The Plano SHS renovations are divided into two packages. Package one includes all of the baseball and softball field renovations:
  • New softball field with attached locker rooms
  • New LED lights at baseball and softball fields
  • Dugout extensions
  • Baseball and turf replacement
  • New concession stands and restrooms
  • $17 million budget for package 1
  • Scheduled to complete in mid-June 2025
Construction crews are currently completing the dugout roofs and finishing the interior spaces.

Package two includes all other renovations:
  • Add roughly 84,000-square-feet of space to athletic buildings, including a new competition gym entry, two new gym floors and new student activity center
  • Add a new kitchen and cafeteria
  • Add a new library
  • Roughly $210 million total budget
  • Scheduled to complete February 2029
Crews are currently building the athletic building additions, including renovating the existing interior space like locker rooms and existing gyms. The district expects to complete the new athletic building additions by July 2026, and everything else by February 2029.


Clark High School Structural Repairs and Renovation
  • Structural repairs of special education area, two interior staircases, sidewalks and ramp
  • Replace slabs and floors in both gyms
  • New cooling tower and new remote terminal systems
  • Add entry resistant film to entry points
  • $3.6 million budget
  • Scheduled to complete August 2025
Workers are currently working on the school’s energy management system, replacing the cooling tower and installing new remote terminal units. The district will also add entry resistant security film to reinforce glass windows and doors.

Career and Technical Education Center
  • Constuct a new 159,463-square-foot Career and Technical Education Center
  • Roughly $75 million total budget
  • Scheduled to complete October 2026
Construction crews are currently installing piers and gradebeams, and laying the foundation to begin vertical construction. The new education center will provide education in 17 different trade and technical fields like A/V production, automotive repair, cybersecurity and culinary.

Plano West Senior High School
  • Add 23,000-square-feet to building E
  • Elevator replacement
  • Upgrade chiller plant and HVAC controls
  • Add 52,000-square-feet to Building D to provide two new gym floors, weight room and locker room space
  • Relocate and upgrade tennis courts
  • Extend baseball and softball dugouts
  • Upgrade fine arts theatrical rigging
  • $94 million total budget
  • Scheduled completion in October 2027
Foundation work is currently underway for the new tennis courts and new classroom additions.

Plano East Senior High School Renovation
  • Upgrade chiller plants and HVAC controls
  • Add 37,000-square-feet for new gym floors, weight room and locker rooms
  • Relocate and upgrade tennis courts
  • Baseball and softball dugout extensions
  • Add consumer science lab to the campus career and technical education department
  • $58 million total budget
  • Expected to complete late 2026
Construction started in April with demolition of the old tennis courts. Construction fencing is up around the new tennis courts and gym expansion.


Beverly and Boggess Elementary School Playground Replacement
  • Add new all-weather ADA accessible lower and upper unit playgrounds with sunshade canopy
  • $689,466 total budget for Beverly; $600,000 budget for Boggess
  • Expected to complete in July 2025
Upper unit, lower unit and shade structures are complete, and sod is installed. The district is replacing nine additional playgrounds, and PISD expects all of them to be ready in time for the next school year, Pearson said.

Transportation and Fueling Station
  • Construct a new fueling station at the northeast corner of Clark Stadium with underground storage tanks
  • $3.5 million total budget
  • Completion date TBD
Approved contractor MDI will order fuel storage tanks and canopies for the new fueling station.

Murphy and Hendrick Middle School Synthetic Track Replacement
  • Provide new 400-meter four-lane all-weather synthetic track with natural grass infield.
  • $2.6 million total budget for Murphy; $1.8 million for Hendrick
  • Expected completion August 2025 for both schools
Murphy Middle School’s track is poured, and workers are applying stripes. Hendrick’s track recently completed the concrete curb, and workers will soon apply asphalt.

Bonser-Thomas Welcome and Enrollment Center
  • Build new 11,000-square-foot facility to provide enrollment, student and community services
  • $6.4 million total budget
  • Scheduled to complete July 2025
  • Site striping and landscaping are complete, along with electric vehicle chagrin stations. Sewer and electrical work are also complete. The PA system and security system have been installed and approved by inspectors. The fire alarm still requires a final inspection, per Pearson’s report.
Harrington Elementary School Regional Day School Program for the Deaf retrofit
  • Provide one deaf education classroom per four classrooms
  • Acoustic improvements to corridors, gym, cafeteria, fine arts rooms, PACE and deaf education audio system.
  • Library renovations
  • Install new wayfinding graphics
  • Install a visual alert and notification system
  • $4.8 million budget
  • Scheduled completion August 2025
PISD is relocating the deaf education campus from Davis Elementary School to Harrington. Crews have begun demolition in the library and are currently removing ceiling tiles for replacement. Workers are also removing millwork and other finishes to prepare for wall demolition.
