Plano ISD is making changes to its middle school, high school and senior high course offerings for the 2025-26 school year.

The specifics

The Plano ISD board of trustees approved course recommendations from district staff that include new, revised and sunset courses during its Oct. 22 work session.

The following courses will be added at the high school and senior high levels:
  • Introduction to Computer-Aided Drafting & Design
  • Foundations of Cybersecurity
  • Disaster Response
  • IB Environmental Systems & Societies HL
  • OnRamps College Algebra
  • OnRamps Biology
The district will also be adding Spanish II for Spanish Speakers as a course offering at the middle school level.

The following courses are set to be sunset at the high school and senior high level:
  • Equine Science
  • Introduction to Engineering Design
  • American Sign Language III
  • Spanish III
  • Spanish IV
  • Dual Credit Biology
Gateway to Technology: Information Computer Technology is also set to be sunset at the middle school level.

Some context

Most of the sunset courses are being replaced by the new courses or the revised courses, which included higher level Spanish and American Sign Language courses.

Equine Science and Introduction to Engineering Design are set to sunset due to low enrollment or Texas Education Agency changes, Kristin Hebert, Plano ISD director of secondary academic services, said.

According to a staff presentation, many of the new and updated career and technical education courses are being offered to “align with long-range planning for program offerings,” including those at the new CTE center, which is set to open in 2026.

Some offerings have also been updated to provide CTE opportunities to students earlier.
