Bill Bub, the Regional Director for DFW and East Texas, said there are currently seven Dollar Tree locations in Plano and the eighth one is slated to open in July at the intersection of Park Blvd. and Preston Road, where Party City was formerly located.
“The first Plano Dollar Tree opened 21 years ago and was in Collin Creek Mall,” Bub said. “That store, store 1,188, is now next to Floor & Decor but it used to be in the mall.”
What they offer
The discount retail store offers a variety of items including health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, automotive items, pet supplies and more.
Top selling items across the nationwide retail chain, which is headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia, are items sold on the party supply wall, seasonal and balloons.
The cost
Dollar Tree priced the majority of their items at $1 until 2022 when they increased that price point to $1.25, said Konrad.
“The majority of our store is our opening price point, $1.25,” Konrad said. “Retailers have to increase prices to continue the value of the space.”
“We brought in Dollar Tree Plus,” Bub said. “It’s a category inside every store that has different price points: $3, $5, $10. They are the best values you can find. Customers love it. You get a hot item and it goes viral on TikTok—customers flood in.”
The details
The newly opened Plano Dollar Tree filled a vacated CVS. Konrad said nationwide they actively pursue vacated CVS, Party City and Joann’s because it expedites the turnkey time.
“Historically, CVS and Walgreens are on great corners. That was their strategy as they built their real estate empires,” Konrad said. “For us to be able to now capture some of those corners as they exit the market, it is critical to our success. We become more convenient, which is part of the beauty of Dollar Tree—convenience, value and discovery.”
