The Vineyards Campground was damaged by severe flooding.[/caption]

After severe flooding in May 2015, many of the restrooms and buildings at Grapevine's lake parks and the Vineyards Campground were left in a state of despair, unable to be repaired.

Just shy of a year since the flooding, Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department is taking steps to replace some of the buildings.

At the March 15 City Council meeting council members approved new restroom facilities and gatehouses for Lakeview Park, Meadowmere Park and the Vineyards Campground.

Lakeview's new restroom will be located closer to the picnic stations and the playground. The restroom will contain two unisex restrooms and will be made of concrete so it will be able to withstand future floods.

The Vineyards Campground's replacement restroom will contain three unisex restrooms with showers and one laundry room. The campground will also get one new storage building. The four existing storage buildings were wooden and did not survive the floods. The new buildings will be made of concrete. The gatehouse will also be replaced. The new gatehouse will be similar to the existing cabins and can be removed during flood events along with the cabins.

Meadowmere Park will get a new gatehouse made out of concrete. The new gatehouse will also house a restroom.

Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Mitchell said the funds will come from the city's general fund, but FEMA will reimburse the city.

Mitchell said the new facilities should be fully operational my mid- to late summer. However, council member Sharron Spencer said according to the National Weather Association, it will be a wet spring and summer, which could delay the replacement of the facilities.
