Frisco resident Brett Larson has filed to run against Denton County Commissioner Hugh Coleman for the 2016 election.

Larson is running as a Republican for Precinct One, which covers parts of Frisco, Little Elm, Pilot Point, Oak Point, Corinth, Sanger, Aubrey and Denton.

Larson is an independent financial advisor and business owner who has lived in Frisco for 11 years with his wife and children.

"I want to be a part of the environment that helps Denton County grow into the potential that it has over the next 10 to 20 years," he said.

Larson said the Denton County Commissioners Court has never had a commissioner from Frisco. Some areas he said he would like to focus on if elected include improving the county's infrastructure to both attract residents and businesses.

"[FM] 423 should have been done 10 years ago, and it's still not done, and it's the main north-south artery through Denton County to the east of the lake," he said. "I want to make sure that things like that are done proactively as opposed to reactively and help foster the kind of growth we need as opposed to inhibit it."

Larson has also been involved in the Frisco community as a program manager for the Frisco Young Entrepreneurs Academy, an executive member of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce and an officer for the Frisco Sunrise Rotary Club, among others.

"I just have an honest desire to serve," he said. "I feel I've done a lot and will continue to do a lot in non-elected positions and capacities. At this point in my life, I would very much like to be in a position of a elected representative authority to be able to use everything I've learned and put that to good use."

The primary election for the Republican Party is scheduled for March 1. The last day to register to vote is Feb. 1, and early voting takes place Feb. 16-26. For polling locations, visit www.votedenton.com.
