Project includes new play structure, lazy river expansion
A new and improved version of Frisco's Outdoor Aquatic Center is on schedule to open Memorial Day weekend in late May.
The project began after Labor Day in 2014—the week after the center closed for the season.
Steve Walsh, city of Frisco Recreation Facilities manager, said the infrastructure and foundation work is wrapping up, and workers are now going vertical with the construction on the new play structures.
"This will be a positive addition that will allow more families to enjoy the outdoor water area," Walsh said.
Several features highlight the
$6 million project, which will increase the capacity of the center from 600 to 1,000 people.
The Wizard Mat Racer will allow four people to race simultaneously down individual 45-foot-long slides.
The lazy river will be expanded by 300–350 linear feet for a total of about 1,000 linear feet.
Walsh said an attraction for younger children will be the multilevel interactive play structure that will include three or four slides and areas to climb and do other activities.
The expansion also includes more pavilions, which will allow the center to host more events, as well as new bathrooms, a concession stand and ticket booth.
The project is funded by the Frisco Community Development Corp.
"The CDC has been a tremendous partner of the city and has embraced parks and recreation projects," Walsh said.
