In the race for the Senate District 9 seat, incumbent Kelly Hancock defeated opponent Gregory Perry, receiving 89,294 votes or 65.07 percent of the votes cast, with all precincts reporting. Perry tallied 47,933 votes or 34.92 percent of votes.

First elected to the Texas Senate in 2012, Hancock's district includes portions of Tarrant and Dallas counties. He served three terms in the Texas House of Representatives where he represented District 91.

Perry is a resident of North Richland Hills and a retired federal hydraulic engineer. This was his first bid for public office.

District 9 of the Texas Senate serves portions of Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties in Texas. The four-year term pays $7,200 a year.
