The project to reconstruct Glade Road in Collevyille has been reduced to only focus on the section from Bransford Road to Manning drive, said Mayor David Kelly in a work session June 30.
The project has been under discussion for approximately two years, and was originally set to include four sections of road, stretching from River Bend Drive to Heritage Avenue. After the project consultant TranSystems presented a final list of recommendations to the City Council on June 17, members only came to a consensus on sections 2 and 3A, with plans for the remaining sections and funding for them to still be reviewed.
But Kelly started the June 30 work session with urging for the council to "come to a decision and move on."
City Council agreed on the option to pursue only the approved sections. Outside of those, Kelly said the only thing the city would address is the roadway itself rather than any features or enhancements.
Judy Chappell, a Colleyville resident, said it was a little victory for her and her fellow petitioners who have been working to protect their properties and the impact to trees along Glade Road.
She said they want the road to be re-done, but not the added sidewalk planned for the north side.
"[City Council] basically just took it off the table and didn't discuss it. We would like a decision to be made, but it's just politics," Chappell said.
City Manager Jennifer Fadden said the design contract for sections 2 and 3A with TranSystems is expected to be on the next council agenda to be approved.
If approved, Bob Lowry, Colleyville public works director, said the city would review bids for the project in April, award a bid in May and then start turning dirt as soon as school is let out.
