After more than 20 years of service to the city of Southlake, Councilwoman Pamela Muller was honored with a plaque, memory box and a key to the city at the council's May 20 meeting.

After serving the limit of two consecutive terms on the Southlake City Council, Gary Fawks was elected to fill her Place 6 seat in a race with Virginia M. Muzyka on May 10.

Fawks, who has served as a councilmember before, has also been mayor pro tem in Southlake.

Since becoming a Southlake resident in 1983, Muller served on the City Council; the Parks and Recreation Board; the 2030 Planning Committee; the Texas High Speed Rail and Transportation Committee; and volunteered with various community organizations including the Southlake Police Department, Southlake Fire Department and Community Emergency Response Team.

To a standing ovation, Mayor John Terrell presented Muller with a plaque commemorating her efforts in serving the community.

City Manager Shana Yelverton then presented a number of gifts to Muller on behalf of the city's staff.

Those gifts included an engraved memory box of notes from staff members, a service pin, and a plaque with a photo of Southlake Town Hall and a key to the city.

Muller was invited to speak before the council and thanked her neighbors, friends, family and fellow members of the council.

"What a privilege to have my fingerprints on a lot of documents in this city over the years," Muller said. "I send my blessings on all of you, and I wish you the best. And of course you all will see me around."

Councilman Martin Schelling, who was defeated by Shahid Shafi in the election for the Place 1 seat, was also recognized at the council meeting but was not present.

A reception followed the council's recognition to allow for the public and Muller's peers to honor her work.
