Area residents awoke to a winter wonderland this morning, with ice and sleet covering streets and trees weighed down by the same.
Power outages to the Frisco area were minimal early Friday morning, according to CoServ officials.
About 7 a.m. this morning, a disruption to about 524 CoServ members in the Frisco/Little Elm area were reported. The area included Corbell Elementary School, Eldorado Estates East, Eldorado Fairways at The Trails, The Fairways and The Trails. Officials said reports are that a transformer may have blown.
Another pocket of about 30 people without power was reported farther north, in Prosper.
Frisco ISD is closed today. Frisco Municipal Court jury trials are canceled, although the court will operate normal hours today.
Stonebriar Centre officials reported the mall will not be opened until noon today , although individual stores may have a different policy.
The National Weather Service says freezing rain and sleet are likely to continue until noon, with a high temperature of 27 degrees. The north wind is blowing at 15 mph.
The low forecast for tonight is about 13 degrees, with a wind chill value between 0 and 10 degrees.
Saturday's high is 24 with another chance of freezing rain in the afternoon and Saturday night. The low is 21.
Frisco is not forecast to get above freezing until Wednesday.
