The monthly trash collection rate will go up slightly in Southlake starting Oct. 1 from $12.85 to $14.23 including tax.

Residents will get new, larger recycling bins with wheels that will work with an automated collection system, said Caroline Eckel, assistant city manager.

The refuse collection contractor, Republic Waste Services, has a new fleet with robotic arms.

The new trucks, which run on natural gas, will be quieter and cleaner for the environment, Eckel said.

Pickup times and days will remain the same, she said.

Also, a curbside leaf recycling program that was a pilot will become permanent. Southlake residents have contributed 550 tons of leaves for recycling since it started several years ago.
