Wide variety, long experience come to Southlake

After a long career of running restaurants elsewhere in Texas, Barbara Harris and her husband Bill just couldn't stop after they moved to Southlake.

"Since we're not old enough to retire at 81 years and her 78, she's going to be in this business as long as she can stand to do it because she loves it and she's good at it," Bill said.

The couple had successful restaurants including one in San Antonio started 33 years ago; Highland Village, in 1989; five Dallas restaurants; and others. They sold them all six years ago and the couple opened The Silver Spoon on June 4, 2012.

"We think we have the best location we've ever had," Bill said, adding that the business' reception in Southlake has been a "warm, friendly" one.

Bill loves getting to know the customers; Barbara handles the food.

The Silver Spoon offers a bakery, catering, special orders, corporate lunches, carryout and holiday dinners in addition to a full menu in the restaurant. That menu features soups, salads and sandwiches as well as breakfast items, such as homemade pastries, quiche and egg sandwiches.

"Everything here is made from scratch in our kitchen right here," Bill said. "The only thing we don't make ourselves are the potato chips and the bread, and we'd probably do that if we had the time."
