Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has alerted the cities of Southlake and Grapevine that residents may experience increased flight noise over the coming weeks thanks to runway construction and north winds.

A letter from Noise Compatibility Planner Harvey Holden explains that one of DFW's runways — its western-most north/south runway known as the 18R/36L — has closed for pavement maintenance and is scheduled to remain closed until Sept. 22. The close is considered partial because departures to the south will continue on the runway when the wind is from the south.

Winds from the north, however, will force the airport to use diagonal runways, typically used for landings only, for flight departures crossing over Southlake and the western portion of Grapevine.

Residents with specific questions about the noise may call the airport's noise hotline at 972-973-3192.
