A traffic switch is expected in the coming weeks as work continues on East Louisiana Street.

The gist

Work on the roadway began in June 2022 and includes “comprehensive infrastructure improvements,” such as paving and draining, as well as pedestrian and hardscape elements, according to city documents.

The $9 million project began in June 2022 and is funded by the city of McKinney and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Capital Improvement Program Manager Blake Sills said in an email.

What’s happening

The eastbound lanes of East Louisiana Street between SH 5 and South Murray Street are closed for repaving. Work on the eastbound lanes of the roadway, including the completion of sidewalks, is expected to be completed in the next two to three weeks, Sills said.

Following the completion of the eastbound side of the road, a traffic switch will occur and construction will begin on the westbound lanes of the roadway. Westbound traffic will be detoured along Virginia Street, Sills said.

Additional street paving work on nearby Andrews Street has been completed, and paving work on Green Street will be completed in May.

Work on Louisiana Street is expected to be completed and reopened to traffic heading both east and west in mid-June, and the entire project will be complete later in the summer, Sills said.
