Here are some important details to know ahead of the tournament.
More general admission seating available
This year sees the tournament add more public bleachers to holes to get as many people around the course as possible. This will be especially true on Hole 17, which will have a stadium-like quality to it as seating surrounds the hole.
In addition to the bleachers, new venues will be available specifically for the general public and will not require an upgraded ticket. This includes Garrison Brother’s Distillery Bunker located on 9 Green; the Citi Lounge on 10 Green, which is open for free to Citi card members and where they can receive discounts on merchandise; and the Cadillac Club on 11 Tee. Other public venues this year are Meiomi Wine Lounge on 14 Green and Tito's Stillhouse Lounge near 18 Green, but access is limited for both areas to only those age 21 and older.
“[Spectators] will have a front-row seat to all the action on 18,” said Clay Duvall, the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson tournament chair.
General admission tickets are $75 per day and can be purchased at www.attbyronnelson.org/spectators/tickets.
Record number of tickets sold
In addition to tickets for the grounds, upgraded ticket experiences are also available and selling quickly, officials said. Upgraded tickets give spectators access to the ULTRA Athletic Club, Champions’ Club and Choctaw Club.
“We’ve already sold more general public tickets than we ever sold in 2018 and 2019,” Duvall said. “We’ve added a number of venues with more than 100 sponsors on hole 17 alone.”
Demand for private hospitality has been so strong for the 2022 event that all venues are sold out.
Traffic to be effected
While the tournament goes on, drivers in the area can expect some shifts in traffic patterns. The SH 121 westbound north frontage road between TPC Drive and Craig Ranch Parkway/Exchange Parkway is scheduled to close from May 11-15. Closing the road to general traffic will help with ingress and egress to the event, the city of McKinney stated in an early April resolution.
In addition to the frontage road, Collin McKinney Parkway will be closed in both directions from Boston Lane to Wesikopf Avenue. TPC Drive is also scheduled to close from Van Tuyl Parkway to Henneman Way for the duration of the tournament. While it will not close, access will be controlled on Settlement Way from Tonkawa Trail to Squeezepenny Lane.
Fundraising opportunity
In honor of Mental Health Month in May, the tournament will be adding a Birdies for Mental fundraising initiative. Participants have the opportunity to pledge five cents or more per birdie made by the PGA tour professionals during the course of the AT&T Byron Nelson. During last year’s tournament, more than 2,000 birdies were made. All proceeds will go towards the AT&T Byron Nelson’s beneficiary, Momentous Institute. The institute exists to build and repair social emotional health with children, families and communities. Participants can also make a flat donation in lieu of pledging. The minimum donation is $20.
Concerts to be held
For the first time in a long time, concerts and live music are being incorporated into the tournament, Duvall said. Starting at 6 p.m. May 14, Band of Heathens will open for Lee Brice, seven-time Academy of Country Music award winner and Grammy-nominated artist. Tickets to the concert are $45 and do not include access to the tournament grounds. Parking for the concert is complimentary and available in Lot 9 after 4 p.m. May 14. Tickets to the concert can be purchased at https://am.ticketmaster.com/byronnel/attbn-concert.
