McKinney Fire Station No. 9, located at 4900 Summit View Drive, is the first new fire station in seven years. The station will serve the northwest part of McKinney.

Fire Chief Danny Kistner said Station No. 9 utilizes its space to provide training opportunities for firefighters throughout the department. He said the new station focuses on security, health and wellness.

The station is equipped with a fitness room, confined-space entry training, a manhole for training, a rappelling wall, space to build a self-contained breathing apparatus obstacle course, a community room, a kitchen, card reader locks on doors and more.

To keep on track with the population growth occurring in McKinney, the city and re department have locations reserved for four more stations, including locations in Craig Ranch, Trinity Falls, at Hardin Boulevard and Virginia Parkway, and north of the new Public Safety Training Center, Kistner said.
