The city’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1 is expanding its boundaries to include a future multifamily development in east McKinney.
What happened?
McKinney City Council members voted 6-1 to approve adding 15.7 acres to the TIRZ No. 1 boundaries during a June 16 meeting. Council member Patrick Cloutier voted against the motion to approve because the TIRZ district has “so many priorities right now.”
“This is a project that is meritorious of consideration of TIRZ,” Cloutier said. “This is a piece of land that—I don’t even think it has storm sewers. The infrastructure is very ancient, and it’s going to be a very heavy lift for anyone to come and address this, and so I respect the ask. I’m going to vote no.”
