Mark Newgent is challenging incumbent Keith Self to represent District 3 in the U.S. House. The winner will appear again on the November ballot against Democratic candidate Evan Hunt.
Cities the district represents include Plano, McKinney, Frisco, Allen, Prosper and Celina.
What you need to know
Early voting for the March 3 primary runs from Feb. 17-27. Registered voters may cast ballots in either Texas’ Republican or Democratic primary, but not both. Third-party candidates will appear on the November ballot.

Why are you running for office?
I’m running because families in North Texas are being squeezed by rising costs, broken priorities, and reckless spending in Washington. I served our country for 20 years and I’ve built a small business. Now I’m ready to bring disciplined leadership and real accountability to Congress.
What are the biggest challenges facing the cities in your district?
Affordability is the biggest challenge: higher groceries, housing, insurance, healthcare, and utilities. Cities also face traffic congestion, infrastructure strain, school funding pressures, and public safety concerns. Small businesses need a stable economy, lower inflation, and predictable rules so they can invest, hire, and grow.
How do you plan to address these issues?
I’ll fight to cut wasteful spending, lower inflation, and keep more tax dollars working here at home. I’ll support pro-growth policies that help small businesses expand and raise wages. I’ll push for practical infrastructure solutions, stronger border security, and healthcare reforms that increase competition and transparency.
What would your top priorities be if you are elected?
My top priorities are affordability, fiscal responsibility, and Texas-first accountability. I’ll work to reduce inflation, secure the border, support veterans and public safety, strengthen local jobs and small businesses, and protect families from rising healthcare and insurance costs. I’ll oppose reckless spending and put our district’s needs first.
