Democrat Mihaela E. Plesa has won the race for the District 70 seat in the Texas House of Representatives, according to election results.

Republican opponent Jamee Jolly received 49.30% of the vote while Plesa received 50.70% with all 45 precincts reporting.

"I’m just super grateful," Plesa said. "It is an honor and privilege to represent this diverse district."

The winner will replace state Rep. Scott Sanford, a Republican from McKinney, who opted not to run for re-election.

Jolly has previously served as president of the Plano Chamber of Commerce and more recently as executive director of the Plano ISD’s Education Foundation. Jolly has campaigned for lowering property taxes, adding more law enforcement along the Texas border with Mexico and increasing funding for public education.

Plesa has worked as a legislative director and communications director for the Texas House of Representatives. Her campaign has touched on issues including expanding women’s rights, reducing recapture payments by public schools and improving access to health care.
