The county’s only public college announced the new degree in a March 17 news release, making it the third baccalaureate degree at the school. The college began its Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity programs in 2020.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges granted approval for the degree on March 4, according to the release. The college is accepting applications for the program until Aug. 1.
“The Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management [program] will prepare our students for rewarding careers in the rapidly growing construction industry in Collin County,” Sherry said Schumann, executive vice president of Collin College, in the release. “Collin College is committed to providing its students with the education and opportunities needed to succeed in high-demand, high-wage fields like construction management.”
Collin College’s Technical Campus in Allen will host the program, which expands on the Associate of Applied Science in Construction Management. Students will learn skills, such as scheduling, planning and cost estimating for construction projects; project safety; and risk management, according to the release.
“Graduates of this program will have the knowledge and skills to compete at a very high level for leading jobs in commercial and residential construction,” said Craig Johnson, director of Architecture and Construction programs at Collin College, in the release. “Combined with Collin College’s [Associate of Applied Science] in Construction Management, students will be prepared for a bright future in the construction industry.”
