The kitchen at the McKinney ISD Community Event Center will undergo some renovations after the district's board of trustees approved enhancements at its meeting April 28.

The event center's kitchen was originally build to be a "warming kitchen," according to meeting documents. The meals were to be prepared and cooked off-site, transported to the event center and kept warm or reheated until the meals were served.

MISD's food vendor Aramark has served 120 events out of that kitchen, district staff said. Aramark officials requested the district improve the kitchen. The modifications include adding a commercial double fryer, a 30-gallon tilting skillet, char-broiler cook top, two stainless steel side tables, and a four-burner range with a side griddle to the existing double-stack convection oven and double-stack combi-oven equipment, according to meeting documents. The requested modification will require the removal and replacement of the existing overhead exhaust hood system, district staff said.

With a contingency fund, the district estimates the project's cost at $268,110, with unused funds going back to the district, staff said.
