The Pantry Restaurant will permanently close its doors Jan. 23 on the square in downtown McKinney, according to the restaurant’s owners.

The restaurant, located at 214 E. Louisiana St., has been open on the square for more than 20 years and serves a variety of American food, such as chicken-fried steak, burgers, salads, pies and more, according to its menu. The closure of the restaurant serves as a retirement for its owners, Tom and Cleo Meredith, according to a post made on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“It’s hard to say goodbye to the business we have loved and built for over 20 years, and it’s hard to imagine downtown McKinney without The Pantry,” the business’ owners said in the post.

Cocktail Creamery, located inside The Pantry Restaurant, will also leave its location. The ice cream shop, which sells alcohol-infused treats, plans to relocate across the square to 205 E. Virginia St. later this year, according to an employee of the business.

El Rincón Del Maiz, a restaurant in north Garland, plans to relocate into The Pantry’s current space in February, according to a post on The Pantry Restaurant’s Facebook page. The Mexican restaurant serves a variety of tacos, tamales and breakfast items and also offers vegan and keto options, according to its menu. El Rincón Del Maiz was also named to Bon Appétit’s list of the 50 Best New Restaurants in America in 2022.
