A new senior living community is being proposed near the northeast corner of Lake Forest Drive and US 380.
What happened?
McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend new zoning for the project during an April 28 meeting. The zoning request will be forwarded to McKinney City Council for consideration and final action May 19, according to a city document.
If approved by council, nearly 10.5 acres would be rezoned for development of apartments and commercial space. The property would be developed by Storm Guard Franchise Systems, according to a letter of intent.
Storm Guard CEO Glenn Lynch said the development would consist of 222 units across three residential buildings at the site. The community, referred to as Forest View Senior Housing in the letter of intent, would be rent-restricted and available for those 55 years and older.

Forest View will offer one- and two-bedroom floor plans that would serve households making between 30%-80% of the area median income, Lynch said. The development’s current site plan shows two residential buildings on the property’s north side and a third building along its south side.
The southernmost building would include a commercial component on the first floor, according to Lynch’s presentation. Developers are planning for 7,853 square feet of commercial space, which could accommodate medical offices, restaurants, retail or offices.
Buildings to the north will border a single-family neighborhood, according to city documents. After meeting with nearby residents, Lynch said developers have lowered those buildings to two stories, and units facing the single-family homes will not have patios.
The development will also be required to add a landscape buffer and a masonry wall between Forest View and the existing single-family homes, according to city documents.
