The McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission considered a project that would bring a 186-unit multifamily development to north McKinney at its Jan. 10 meeting.

The development is planned for 3352 N. McDonald St., north of US 380 in northeast McKinney. The proposed project is a 186-unit apartment complex that would include six two-story buildings on about 12.6 acres of land that is already zoned for multifamily uses, according to city documents. The proposed site plan includes a swimming pool, a fitness room, and a combined library and business center, according to city documents. The documents also include plans for both one- and two-bedroom units.

The proposed development would also be located between two existing residential developments, including the Trinity Heights neighborhood directly to the north and the Creek Point Apartments directly to the south. Neighboring residents expressed concerns about the project at the meeting. The concerns expressed included increased traffic and emergency services access as well as the disruption of animal habitats and native plant species on the property.

The McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended a requested variance to the screening standards for the property at the meeting. The variance request for the project will be considered by the McKinney City Council at its Feb. 7 meeting.
