According to McKinney ISD officials, the stadium, located at the southeast corner of McKinney Ranch Parkway and Hardin Boulevard, is about 50 percent complete and expected to open in late December or early January, weather pending.
District officials broke ground on the approximately $70 million stadium
Dec. 6 and estimated construction would take roughly 14 months.
Items complete at the stadium include five of the seven parking lots, underground plumbing, and exterior wall blocks for the community and events center, said Shane Mauldin, communications specialist for MISD.
Construction crews are working on air conditioning for the lower level of the community and events center, upper-tier seating on the home side and press box, Mauldin said.
When complete, the stadium will consist of 12,000 seats, 2,000 parking spaces and a community events center.
“The McKinney ISD stadium and event center will be unique in that the facility serves as both a stadium and as a community events center with a banquet room,” said Cody Cunningham, chief communications and support services officer at MISD, in a
previous interview with
Community Impact Newspaper. “This multipurpose facility will not only support football, soccer and band, but the event center will be used for student banquets and teacher professional development.”
Funding for the stadium comes from the
$220 million 2016 bond program.
