Sunday, Sept. 1 is the start of dove hunting season, which runs until Nov. 12 and again from Dec. 20-Jan. 5, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

According to the city of McKinney, hunters must obtain permission from the property owner before hunting in any tract of land inside city limits and must be at least 1,000 feet from any schools, hospitals and day care facilities. Hunters must also remain at least 600 feet from residential housing.

"Additionally hunters should ensure—as always—that they fire their weapons in a manner not reasonably expected to cause a projectile to cross the boundary of property tracts," according to the city's website.

An interactive map showing permitted hunting areas in McKinney and the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction is available here. Blue areas on the map represent land larger than 50 acres, and green areas represent land larger than 10 acres.
