With all votes in, McKinney City Council will have a runoff election for District 1, District 2 and At Large. In order to win the election, one candidate needed at least 50 percent of the vote.

District 1

Dusttin Pearson and La'Shadion Shemwell will run against each other in June. Pearson ended the night with 42.13 percent of the votes with 490 votes. Shemwell received 40.07 percent with 466 votes. Pearson, who said he was surprised by the results said he will be campaigning for the next month and hopes his support base will vote again in June. Shemwell was not immediately available for comment. District 3 Scott Elliott and Margaret Harsch will face off during the runoff election for District 3. Elliott had 40.65 percent of the vote with 1,296 votes. "I was really proud of our race," Elliott said. "We ran a, I believe, very clean race." Harsch had 24.81 percent with 791 votes. "We're super excited to be in a runoff," Harsch said. "We had a really great race in District 3, all of the candidates were awesome. ... It's going to be a win-win for McKinney."

At Large

Derek Baker and Charlie Philips will head into a runoff election in June. Baker had 23.7 percent of the vote with 2,258 votes. Philips had 46.1 percent with 4,392 votes. "I'm very tickled that I had a good showing," he said. "I couldn't be more thankful. I like the position I'm in." Baker was not immediately available for comment.
