The nearly 48,000-square-foot McKinney store is the 15th Whole Foods Market location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, a company representative said. A grand opening was held for the store Aug. 27 and featured giveaways, samples and promotions.
Diving in deeper
Whole Foods was founded in Austin in 1980, and has since opened more than 500 grocery stores across the U.S. The grocery chain sells a variety of natural and organic grocery products, as well as a selection of products that are vegan, keto-friendly and gluten-free, according to the company’s website.
Food, beverage and other products sold at the store adhere to the company’s quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and more than 300 other additives and ingredients.
Some grocery store departments at the McKinney store include floral, bakery, fresh produce, as well as service counters such as a full-service meat counter with butchering services, a specialty cheese counter staffed by trained cheesemongers and a seafood counter with trained fishmongers. The store also offers an alcoholic drink section with 530 wines and over 250 craft beers, including some from local breweries.
The McKinney location, led by store team leader Afsaneh Eshaghi, offers more than 600 products from suppliers in Texas and neighboring states. During the grand opening event, store officials announced a donation of food and an all-electric refrigerated van to Allen-based All Community Outreach, a nonprofit that works to prevent hunger and homelessness, as part of the company’s Nourishing Our Neighbors program.
“It’s an exciting day as we open our doors in McKinney and join this wonderful community,” Eshaghi said in a news release. “Our team is passionate about great food and great service, and this store brings an exciting mix of high-quality options for every shopper."
The store is also the first in the North Texas area to feature Dash Carts, a smart shopping cart that integrates with a shopper's Amazon Prime account and enables them to scan and bag items while shopping, the company’s website states.
“With features that make shopping here easy and enjoyable, my team and I look forward to welcoming customers and sharing all the incredible food and expertise Whole Foods Market is known for,” Eshaghi said.
