Grocery store company Kroger is planning to close one of its McKinney locations, company representative John Votava confirmed.

An exact closing date has not been announced, but staff at the store said the location is expected to close by the end of the summer. The store, located at the northeast corner of University Drive and US 75, offers a variety of grocery products including fresh produce, frozen meals and canned foods, as well as household supplies, pharmaceutical items and more.

The closure is a part of a roughly 60-store closure the company announced earlier this year, a company news release states. Associates at the affected stores are expected to be offered the ability to transfer to a different Kroger location.

“This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,” Votava said in an email.

Kroger has two other McKinney locations, including one at the southwest corner of University Drive and Lake Forest Drive that was remodeled in late 2024. Another Kroger store is located in McKinney at the northeast corner of Eldorado Parkway and Lake Forest Drive, according to its website. The company has seen recent store openings in North Texas, including news locations in Melissa, Plano and Fort Worth.

Following the closure of the East McKinney store, the nearest grocery stores in East McKinney include Walmart, WinCo Foods, Sam’s Club and Target.
