Indian grocery store and food court Spices of India is set to open in the Plaza at Fort Buckner retail center in 2027, a representative of the business confirmed.
The specifics
The 15,600-square-foot, family-owned store will offer South Asian staples such as spices, rice, flours, lentils and beans, as well as fresh-made roti, samosas and puff pastries. Other offerings include snacks, produce, dairy and frozen food, a representative of the business said.
The store’s food court will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offer dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering services.
The business is owned by husband and wife Raj and Nita Patel, who said they’re “excited” to bring the store to the McKinney area.
“Collin County is home to a large and growing Indian and South Asian community, and many families now drive to Frisco and Plano to find the ingredients they cook with at home,” the Patels said in an emailed statement. “We want to be the place where they can get everything in one trip, from fresh produce and spices to a hot meal at our food court. We also want to welcome neighbors who are new to Indian food.”
Diving in deeper
The Patels have owned their Spices of India store in Oklahoma City for more than 35 years, the business’s website states. In that time, their Oklahoma store has occupied multiple locations as it has grown and now offers more than 20,000 products, per its website.
“Our staff will be happy to help anyone find ingredients, suggest a dish or explain what to try first,” the Patels said. “We have run this kind of store for the Oklahoma City community and we look forward to becoming part of the McKinney community.”
The context
The store is joining the Plaza at Fort Buckner as part of the second phase of development for the retail center, which is located at the northeast corner of University Drive and Hardin Boulevard.
The center’s first phase included the opening of a number of businesses and restaurants including Torchy’s Tacos, Cava, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Frost Bank and more. In addition to Spices of India, the second phase of development includes a Dave & Buster’s, which opened earlier this year, as well as an EoS Fitness gym. The retail center is being developed by North Texas-based commercial real estate development firm The Seitz Group, which also led development of retail centers at the other three corners of the University Drive-Hardin Boulevard intersection.
