Construction crews will repair multiple sections of northbound Dallas Parkway in Prosper starting early next year.
The repairs will prepare the frontage road for traffic from the future Dallas North Tollway, said Hulon T. Webb Jr., Prosper’s director of engineering services.
The newest segment of DNT from US 380 to FM 428 is set to open in late 2027, according to the North Texas Tollway Authority.
Prosper Town Council approved a $10 million contract with Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating, the same company building the DNT extension, at an Oct. 27 meeting.
The contract covers repairs to the frontage road as well as improvements to Frontier Parkway near the DNT underpass, according to town documents.
A closer look
The repairs will take place on Dallas Parkway close to where it intersects with several roadways, including:
First Street
Prosper Trail
Frontier Parkway
While construction will take place near the intersections, it will not affect east-to-west traffic, Webb said.
A total of $7.2 million of the $10 million contract with Sinacola will be used for construction on Dallas Parkway, per town documents.
Council also approved a $98,700 contract for design services and a $113,035 contract for construction materials testing, bringing the total cost of the northbound Dallas Parkway repairs to $7.5 million.
What else?
The remaining $2.8 million of the $10 million contract with Sinacola is for improvements to Frontier Parkway near the underpass at the future DNT.
Town officials previously worked with Collin County and the city of Celina to widen Frontier Parkway east of Dallas Parkway, Webb said.
The widened portion of Frontier Parkway has four lanes with an additional westbound lane at its intersection with Dallas Parkway.
NTTA is widening Frontier Parkway where it passes under the future DNT as part of the expansion, Webb said.
Prosper officials will have to widen Frontier Parkway west of Dallas Parkway to take advantage of the widened underpass, he said.
Including an additional $45,000 design contract, the total cost of the Frontier Parkway improvements comes to $2.9 million.
The plan
Town officials expect work on both projects to start in late January or early February of 2027, and the construction has a 120-day timeline, Webb said.
Officials are still deciding whether to spread out the closures along Dallas Parkway or close everything down at once.
“The intent is to do it as fast as we can with the least amount of disruption,” Webb said.
