Representatives of Kroger and local leaders broke ground on a new Kroger Marketplace store in Melissa on Sept. 7, according to a news release.

The 123,000-square-foot store will be located on about 20 acres on the north side of SH 121 between Liberty Way and Washington Drive. The grocery store, which is expected to open in late 2024, will create between 250 and 300 new jobs, according to the release.

“This new store will be a very important and significant investment in our community,” Kroger’s Dallas Division President Keith Shoemaker said in the release. “An investment that will benefit the city of Melissa for many years to come and will provide opportunity for new jobs and economic growth.”

The project is being developed by Irving-based Ridgemont Commercial Construction. The new store will feature:
  • A Starbucks kiosk
  • A fuel center with 18 fueling spots
  • A Murray’s Cheese counter
  • A pharmacy
  • A full-service grocery section
  • An expanded general merchandise section with home goods, toys and more
The Melissa store is one of three new Kroger stores planned for the North Texas area, with other locations coming to Plano and Fort Worth. The Melissa location will be the first new Kroger store in the area since the opening of the McKinney location at Lake Forest Drive and US 380 in 2019, according to the release.
