Northern Tool and Equipment will open in east McKinney on June 1, according to a news release.

The store, located in the Virginia Square Shopping Center on the northeast corner of US 75 and West Virginia Parkway, will be the 36th opened in Texas by the tool and equipment supply brand. Minnesota-based Northern Tool and Equipment has over 130 stores across the U.S.

The store offers a variety of tools, parts and machinery, including both national brands and Northern Tool-manufactured items, according to its website.

Totaling about 40,000 square feet, the space was previously occupied by Super One Foods and Brookshire’s. The building was renovated to split the previous grocery store into two retail spaces as well as to raise the roof and renovate the exterior facade. The other half of the split space is expected to be occupied by Autozone.

Northern Tool and Equipment will host a grand opening event at the new location June 15, according to a representative of the store. Ed “Too Tall” Jones, former defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, is expected to make an appearance at the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet fans and sign autographs. www.northerntool.com
