The Lewisville City Council approved a lease agreement with First Baptist Church Lewisville for the operation of a temporary fire station.

The church is located at 1251 Valley Ridge Blvd. The temporary fire station is needed because Fire Station No. 1 will be torn down and rebuilt as part of the Joint Public Safety Building, according to the June 20 agenda item.

It is a 24-month lease beginning on June 21 and ending on May 31, 2024, with a six-month extension, if needed, according to the agenda. The lease payment was originally $1,500 per month, but the church board increased its rental rate to $5,000 per month.

Funding for the project comes from the Joint Public Safety Building construction budget.

The fire engine and ambulance from this station will need to be located within Fire District No. 1 to keep emergency response times within acceptable limits, according to the agenda. No current buildings were found to house the crews and equipment, so portable structures will be used on the vacant property.

The best site found is a lot owned by First Baptist Church Lewisville, according to the city. It is large enough to house the temporary station, and the location will allow for acceptable response times within District 1.

The property has a concrete driveway with parking spots located at the rear of the site, which will reduce the amount of concrete that will need to be poured for the temporary station.
