Highland Village City Council unanimously approved a conditional-use permit at a Dec. 10 meeting to allow Simplicity Esports and Gaming Co. to open at The Shops at Highland Village.

The gaming company will be located in a 2,572-square-foot space at 1700 Cottonwood Creek, Ste. 140, Highland Village, according to city documents. Simplicity Esports and Gaming Co. is a North American organization that operates retail esport centers, providing novice and professional gamers to compete at esports in a social environment, according to the company's website.

It is expected to open early next year, according to an official at The Shops at Highland Village.

City Council approved the permit following a public hearing. No one spoke for or against the approval of the permit at the hearing.

Staff said at the meeting that the city had received no calls or written comments about the arcade after public hearing notices were posted.
