The county announced the decision in a news release on March 3, the same day the Texas Department of State Health Services expanded the pool of people eligible for the vaccine to include these groups.
Among the people who are newly allowed to sign up are teachers, staff and bus drivers for preschool, primary and secondary schools, as well as Head Start programs and licensed childcare providers, the county said.
Before this change, Denton County had only accepted signups for the county’s vaccine waitlist if the people were 65 or older, had a chronic medical condition or worked for various types of healthcare providers.
The county has been vaccinating tens of thousands of people on its waitlist at mass clinics held at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Individuals in the eligible categories may also receive their shots from other providers, such as pharmacies, if they have the vaccine in stock.
