Flower Mound Town Council approves $4.5 million for new fire station

A $4.5 million construction agreement with Schmoldt Construction Inc. was approved at the Jan. 7 Flower Mound Town Council meeting for the construction of Fire Station No. 7.

The 9,300-square-foot fire station will be located at 2777 Skillern Road just north of Wichita Trail.

Town staff said the fire station is expected to be complete in December and will be the town’s first fire station to have a safe room, which will be able to withstand winds up to 250 mph.

Town officials said they realized there was an ongoing gap in coverage and service delivery in the Skillern area, which spurred the need for a new fire station.

Officials said the recognized response time standard is to be able to arrive on scene and begin operations 4-6 minutes from the time of the alarm. Flower Mound Fire and Emergency Services response time studies confirm the organization is unable to meet this standard without Fire Station No. 7.
