Aesthetic improvements will be coming to two exits along I-35E in Lewisville.

Zooming in

The I-35E improvements are still underway, and these aesthetic improvements will be at the SH 121 Business and Corporate Drive intersections. The project couldn’t start without TxDOT approval, according to documents.

The work will include:
  • Various designs on highway walls
  • Specialized light poles and signposts
  • Colored sidewalks
  • Pedestrian lighting
  • Banner poles
  • Raised planters
  • Landscape irrigation
The city will be responsible for adding irrigation heads, soil, mulch and plants, which is an estimated cost of $500,000, according to documents.

A closer look

Of the funding amount, Denton County provided $6 million for the proposed improvements from the Transportation Road Improvement Program-2022 bond, approved by council on Sept. 11. The city is funding the remainder of the cost from the I-35 Aesthetics Capital Project. Cost overruns are related to the aesthetics items and are the responsibility of the city.
